CARDBOARD PORTRAITS

OTHER

These portraits were created as part of a personal project to explore creating images from a single medium. The medium of choice here being corrugated cardboard.

The images were created from photographic portraits that were vectorised and edited in illustrator to make them more suitable for the process. The images were projected onto the cardboard then traced over and cut out by hand using a scalpel to reveal the corrugations beneath.

The subjects of the portraits were primarily designers I admire. Irish designer and architect Eileen Gray, Danish furniture designer Hans J Wegner and Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa. The Eileen Gray portrait was borrowed by the Irish Architecture Foundation for an education series TeenCreate as part of their exhibition "The Everyday Experience" in the Irish Museum of Modern art.
