BREEZE BLOCK PENDANT
OTHER
Moulded in the form of concrete construction blocks, these pendants were made as gifts for friends involved in architecture, design and construction. They involved the preparation of micro scaled casting forms, embedding metal in the final cement objects, and sealing the resulting pieces.
This project began as an experiment with a new material, namely quick setting expanding cement. Achieving correct mix ratios for objects of such a small scale involved batching and mixing using an oil-painters palette knife as a trowel. The final objects were wax-sealed and have developed a natural looking concrete patina from handling. Metal master forms were also made in aluminium such that silicon moulds could be prepared for any future versions.
