ASH DESK & SHELVES

PRODUCT

This desk and floating shelves was a personal project to create a work and gaming space in a recently renovated bedroom. The desk frame which supports the desktop was cut and mig welded from 40mm box section steel. Two protruding horizontal bars were connected to the bottom of the frames to support drawer units on either side of the desk. Any open ends on the box steel was capped off with push-fit feet made from the same ash as the top surface. The floating shelves are supported on 12mm threaded steel bars, embedded through the studs and into the masonry wall behind.

The butcher block ash table surface height was set at 940mm. This height paired with a HÅG Capisco chair with extended gas lift and foot ring makes for an ergonomic and comfortable sit/stand height for the user. This extra height also provides extra room for cable management and storage under the desk, which is provided for by shelves, also made from the butcher block ash. The lower floating shelf was set at approximate eye height for books with the second shelf offset higher to provide a space for storage bins for longer term storage.

The table and shelves are made of Solid Ash countertop, with a filleted edge and cable passthrough, finished using Rubio monocoat in chocolate. The table legs are made from box section steel finished with satin white hammerite.
