Series of models and tensile frames used to demonstrate the principles of thin-shell structures. The models include hyperbolic and parabolic constructions, geodesic domes and spheres, and other swept, revolved, and projected surfaces. The pieces were developed to accompany a demonstration delivered to students in UCD School of Architecture. The smaller developed dome and sphere models are given to the students as kit models.
Design and construction involved 2D and 3D CAD modelling, traditional hand joinery, design optimisation methods, laser cutting, and model-making techniques.
