WORKSHOP FURNITURE
PRODUCT
When I began in my current role the workshop was outdated and a lot of the space was being used inefficiently. Two of the main issues requiring attention were the storage of materials and storage and accessibility of workshop tools. To tackle the tools a new secure tool storage room was fitted out closer to the main workshop and a system of totes were built for storage and transport of the most popular hand tools.
The totes were mostly built from material left over from projects completed in the previous term and from standard dimensional lumber. By using french cleats the totes are interchangeable and can be swapped out in the tool storage area onto a purpose built trolley. This provides quick access to the tools while allowing them to be easily returned to the secure storage area when not in use.
Other projects undertaken have included the reorganisation of offices and development of spaces for a new digital fabrication facility, new sheet material and offcut storage, new timber storage, and designing and prototyping new workbenches. I also designed new dedicated areas for casting and machinery which has been fit into the workshop by rationalising the existing storage.
